The Walsh 5
Here is what we can do for Walsh 1, Walsh 2, 1XO and 2XO speakers:

Trade-ins:
We happily take these models in trade toward better speakers in our current line. Call us at (800) 783-1553 to discuss your desires.

Upgrades:
These four models can all be upgraded to Super 2s or Omni 2s. At the time of upgrading they can also be matched to Super Versions of the SB-2 or SB-4 subwoofers. All upgrades come with a three-year parts and labor limited warranty and employ Walsh Mark 2 drivers.

The Super 2 upgrade involves five major changes:
  1. new inputs,
  2. new internal wiring,
  3. new crossovers,
  4. new main inverted drivers and
  5. new supertweeters.
Everything is new except the cabinets and grills. The new inputs are gold plated, five-way binding posts that accept banana plugs or wire up to 12 gauge. MonsterCable is used for the internal wiring. The latest version of the small Walsh driver (like the Walsh 100) and a metal dome supertweeter, like the Walsh 5's, are installed. The crossover with the SubBass Activator is installed in the driver head.

You gain slightly in the bass and substantially in treble. The midrange is marginally smoother (but this was their great strength to begin with). We now rate the system at six ohms. If you go to the Omni 2 conversion, you lose the Full Room Stereo in exchange for super wide dispersion and reduced highs for rear channel applications.

If you want more and deeper low bass response, a subwoofer can be added at the time of upgrading. The SubBass Activator is changed into a high pass filter for the 2s and a subwoofer is modified to match them. If you want the bass of Walsh 4s (32 Hz cutoff and medium sized rooms), you get the Super SB-2. If you want the bass of Walsh 5s (25 Hz cutoff and large rooms), you get the Super SB-4.

With the Three Year Limited Warranty, the basic Super 2 or Omni 2 costs $595. The Upgrade and Super SB-2 combination costs $1095 and with a Super SB-4, $1395. Plus, freight both ways is added. The Upgrade and conversion usually takes less than 2 weeks at the factory. You can just send the complete speakers (without cloth grills), a letter indicating your choice, and your phone number.

Repairs:
There are three typical repair charges on these models. If the highs in one driver are out: $50. If the lows in one driver are out $100. Send in both drivers and we will check out the good one and match the repaired unit to it. If there is a problem in the crossover of the Walsh 2, the cost is $120 and we will need the complete cabinet (without the cloth gill) to do the repair.

Parts:
About the only part ever needed is the grill/frame. They cost $35 each and are only available in black on the plastic frame.
