Up-Grades:
The D2 can be upgraded to the sound quality of a C2 with the addition of dome tweeter and crossover harness. The upper treble response is extended to add sheen to cymbals and the metallic quality to horns. You will have to cut a hole in the front panel (a template is provided) and install the crossover harness. The whole process should take less than an hour. The two tweeters, two harnesses and installation instructions cost $140 plus shipping.
Both the C2 and D2 can have tighter and deeper bass with the addition of a SubBass Activator(SBA) and the new replacement woofer. The SBA eliminates the drive below the speaker's natural cut-off to reduce distortion and clean up the deep bass. The new woofers are shielded for use in home theater systems. They also use a new foam surround that should last 20 to 30 years. FerroFluid cooling handles the thermo transients from CDs. The new woofers cost $250 per pair (they should be changed in pairs). The SubBass Activators adds $80 per pair. Installation requires a screw driver and takes less than twenty minutes.
Repairs:
The new woofers are $250 per pair. The D2's only tweeter and the low tweeter in the C2 have a screen on their front with an Ohm logo embossed in the screen. They are $25 each. Some fully tested, used C2 high tweeters are available for $40 each. The grill cloth and frames are $25 each and available only in black. Crossovers rarely have to be repaired. Some fully tested, used C2 crossovers are available for $55 each.
