Upgrades:

For Walsh 3s and Walsh 4s, the Super 4 upgrade breathes new life into a fine older speaker. The cabinet has the crossover removed. The inputs become gold-plated five-way binding posts that will accept banana plugs or bare wires up to 12 AWG in diameter. The drivers are totally replaced. Our latest version of the inverted, full range, main speaker (the Walsh 200 Mk-2) of that size is combined with a metal dome super tweeter to extend the high frequency response and add sheen to cymbals and the metal quality to horns. The system is tuned lower and a SubBass Activator is added to extend the bass response and prevent damage from being driven below its rated frequency range.

The net benefits to you are a silkier high end, more solid bass and slightly smoother midrange. And it all comes with a three year, limited parts and labor warranty. The cost to you is $995 per pair (assuming the Walsh drivers are in good condition). The conversion takes about an hour. Ohm will do it for a labor charge of $150 including minor cosmetic work.

At the time of upgrading you can get the bass response of Walsh 5 by having the Super Walshes mated to a SB-4 subwoofer. This endtable-sized subwoofer (31"W x 20"D x 18"T) has two 12" dual drive subwoofers. The bass response goes down to 25 Hz and can play twice as loud in the deep bass as a regular Super 4. The cost of the Upgrade and SB-4 combination is $1595.

For the 3XOs and 4XOs, the basic Super 4 upgrade is a trade off. You gain low frequency extension at the cost of lower sensitivity and a lower maximum loudness. The upgrade with the SB-4 subwoofer is best to gain substantial performance.

Repairs:

There are four typical repair charges on these models. If the highs in one driver are out we charge $125, if the lows in one driver are out we dharge $200. If the foam surround is deteriorating we charge $250 per pair (these are only done in pairs). Send in both drivers and we will check out the good one and match the repaired unit to it. If there is a problem in the crossover in the Walsh 3s or Walsh 4s the cost is $155 and we will need the complete cabinet (without the cloth gill) to do the repair.

Parts:

The grill/frame is available in black. The Walsh 3 and 3XO grill/frames cost $45 each. The Walsh 4 and 4XO grill/frames cost $55 each.

Returning to Ohm:

You do not need to call in advance. Just send your speakers to us with instructions (and your name, address, and phone number!!). It takes about 10 working days to do the upgrade and then we will call you before we send them to arrange payment. If you are getting the SB-4 and Upgrade combination, you can save about a week by calling us and paying by credit card in advance.
