The Walsh 5 was the best speaker Ohm had made until 1998. It received praise in most of the audio press including Stereophile. Tthe front cover of Audio called them ''A Masterpiece of the Speaker Designer's Art''. They could fill even large rooms with life-like reproduction.
We used real wood veneer cabinets with an Ohm logo in the lower center. There were three controls on the back, one to match the bass response to your room size (down for very small rooms, up for medium rooms and in the middle for small sized rooms); one to match the treble (increase for rooms with carpeting and over stuffed furniture, down for hard floors and no drapes, in the middle for average mixed rooms); and one to set the ''perspective'' (forward brought the midrange up slightly and recessed depressed it slightly).
The speakers drivers came as matched mirror image pairs. They should have labels identifying the left speaker and right speaker. The cabinets are interchangable so it is important to have the drivers on the right side with the Ohm logos on the front. Placed eight to twelve feet apart and about one foot from the wall gives the smoothest bass and best imaging.
Upgrade Options:
The Walsh 5 Mk-2 upgrade allows for deeper bass,
smoother midrange and high treble with wider dispersion. We must modify the driver assembly at our factory with a new vented super tweeter for higher power and wider dispersion, and a new inverted cone terminator for longer life and smoother midrange. We also revise the internal crossover for deeper bass and better protection, plus balance the two drivers to + /- 1 dB for better stereo imaging. The entire upgrade takes three to four weeks in our factory and an additional 10 minutes after that in your home (you easily slip in the vent adapter to tune the cabinet for deeper bass). This $2000 upgrade comes with a 3 Year Limited Parts & Labor Warranty.
