Ohm Speakers

The Ohm F was the most popular of the first generation Walsh speakers.  It used a 12'' inverted omnidirectional driver operating from 35 - 17,000 Hz.  Some of the earliest Ohm Fs had Ohm A serial number plates, but the much smaller driver is of importance.  The Ohm Fs were internationally recognized as ''one of the best...if... not the best...speaker in the world''.  It received reviews from as far away as Australia and Thailand as well as throughout Europe and America. 

Ohm F owners are a loyal group.  Most find it hard to beleive we've improved the speakers until they audition the top of the latest generation in their homes.  

All Ohm Fs are beginning the end of their functional lives.  There is a foam damping material used around the base of the driver and inside that is failing from old age.  We have never successfully repaired an Ohm F that was failing this way (the cone gets modified when you remove the old material and no longer sounds the same).  For years, we replaced the old drivers with new ones.  The last of these were made when the last craftsman retired.  No more origianls are available.  But a series of upgrades with second generation drivers are available.

The F190 upgrade can be adjusted for any sized room. The basic upgrade replaces new drivers for your old ones. You retain your old cabinets and grills. The highs equal the original Ohm F and the bass goes deeper in small and medium sized rooms and remains the same in large rooms. These cost $995 per pair. (No Longer Available)		The F100 S-3 (for small rooms) and F200 S-3 (for medium rooms) look the same, sound the same and both come with new, more acoustically transparent grills. No cabinet modification is required. The 100 upgrade kit costs $1000 per pair and the 200 costs $1500 per pair.		The F300 S-3 and F5 S-3 look the same and sound the same in large rooms. The F300 works in large rooms while the F5 has controls to match any room size. Cabinet modifications are required. The F300 kit is $2200 per pair and the F5 is $3200 per pair. New grills come with both.

We continued to make new Ohm F drivers for service replacement for many years thereafter (we've never seen a ''repaired Ohm F'' that performed like a new one because none were good enough to put our name on them).  The newly developed Walsh driver was adapted to the Ohm F cabinet and became the F-2 which was the first Ohm F upgrade.  We stopped making the original driver in 1984 when the last of the craftspeople retired; but we now offer a wide range of upgrades. All the upgrades come with a 60 Day Home Trial and 3 Year Limited Parts and Labor Warranty.

We have continued to improve the Walsh technology and today the Walsh S-3 Series are the best speakers we have ever built, and the reviewers agree:

Optimized for Your Listening Room
The Walsh Mk-2 Series are designed to work best in specific sized rooms: small, medium or large. They take advantage of the reinforcement that room walls give to the deep bass.  For your main speakers the dispersion is restricted on the sides and back to make placement easier and the sweet-spot becomes a sweet-sweep, usually as wide as the speakers are apart.  Rear ambiance speakers are still available as full range, fully omnidirectional speakers at no difference in cost.

The Ultimate in Sound and Flexibility: The F5 S-3s for $3450.
The F5 S-3 driver is a version of the highly reviewed Walsh 300  driver with switches that allow you to match its balance to your room (big to small and live to dead) and your preference (forward to recessed).  These always come with the new grills. The cabinet needs some modification since the F300 S-3 system can produce up to 10 times the sound level the original Ohm F could.  It takes about 2 hours if you're handy with woodworking or we will do the modifications for you for $250 plus freight both ways.

These use the actual drivers from the Walsh 100, 200 and 300 S-3s. They all come with the new grills. You must modify the cabinet with the F300 S-3 and  just change the drivers for the F100 S-3 plus remove some of the stuffing for the F200 S-3. Used in the proper sized rooms, they sound virtually the same on all recordings, and the same as the F5 S-3. The advantages of the F5s are their flexibility to match any room and taste plus their ability to play louder in small and medium rooms.
