This is from the first review of the new Thousand Series Ohm Walsh speakers. "To my ears the Ohm Walsh speakers combine the transparency and transient ability of exotic speakers like electrostatics, but without the drawbacks of directionality, limited dynamic range, and limited bass response. They have excellent stereo imaging along with a spacious, enveloping sound, well-rendered fine detail, and faithfulness to the recording. The Walsh 3000 ups the ante over its predecessors with even more detail, a crisper midrange and smoother response throughout the tonal range with taut, defined bass. They are full, transparent, and effortlessly natural, adapting easily to the requirements of the music from reproducing the most delicate notes of a flute or piano to the full impact of an orchestral crescendo. You just sit back and listen and melt into the music. What’s more, they sound great with any program material, from instrument solos to action movies. Certain speakers are said to be “good rock speakers” or “good jazz speakers,” etc… truly great speakers sound good no matter what you play through them. Vocals are extremely natural, a hallmark of Walsh speakers, and sometimes you can even hear the performers taking in breath between verses. They way they effortless float sonic images in the air really adds to the experience. These are 6" x 6" columns either 23" or 35" tall. They use the smallest Walsh driver we have ever mass produced. Their ability to disappear and create a tangible 3D soundstage was among the best I have hear. In terms of this quality, the Ohms served all music I played through them well. But recordings that utilize the studio as an instrument were especially fun. Anything that had artificial sounds or sounds created virtually worked really well." “So if I had to describe the qualities of the Ohm MicroWalsh Tall in a few words I would say that they are a small speaker that delivers a big sound. They soundstage very well and play deeper than I would have expected. The mids are tangible and the highs sweet – but are contingent on how you place them in your room (like any speaker I guess). I felt that the Ohm’s were very musical and had no problem keeping everything together in terms of pacing and rhythm. Dynamics were also exceptional. Overall, the little Ohm’s do a very good job of balancing out all of their positive qualities with an end result of a very agreeable sonic presentation. And in all honesty, though I love how well they soundstage, I would still favor them even if they did this not quite as well as they do. Because of the exceptional naturalness, voices sound like people -- not speakers -- and movie dialog is completely intelligible. The Tall MicroWalshs are used for main front speakers $1000-$1100/pair, depending on your veneer choice. The Short MicroWalshs and Wall are $850-$950/pair for real wood veneered cabinets.
